Play fit is a new way of keeping you fit and healthy. It combines the convenience and affordability of being able to do at home with the accountability and tailoring of a personal trainer.
At the heart of the system is an A.I. personal trainer called Kristina. If you wish to sign up, Kristina will guide you through a quick initiation where you will need to provide some measurements, your weight and do a few simple exercises to check your current fitness. So before you sign up make sure you have some measuring tape and access to some scales. You will also need to have a working web cam or can go to this website on a smart phone. We use the camera to monitor that exercises are done correctly and to verify your weight. There is no need to see your face in the camera so feel free to angle it to only show your neck down if you have any privacy concerns.
Once you are registered, you can log-in to your dashboard at any time. Kristina will set targets and suggest an exercise program but you can opt to do your own thing or select a home workout from the dashboard whenever you like. The system is highly configurable so although you can enjoy play-fit with only a set of scales, if you have say a cycling machine or a punch bag you will have more exercises that you can choose from. You can even do things we have not thought of yet, just tell us what you did and we can keep track of it to monitor your improvements over the weeks.
The reason play-fit works more than you just aiming to do a workout DVD for example is the accountability. Kristina does a monthly check-in (don't worry you are allowed holidays ;-) ) and as much as possible all exercises and tasks are monitored with your webcam to make sure you are actually doing them. Most of this monitoring is done by artificial intelligence detecting movement on the camera or linking into a smart watch (e.g. a fitbit) if you have one. We however also have a number of fitness trainers that may occasionally look at your account and any snapshots taken during exercise to check the A.I. is working correctly and you are doing everything correctly. As with the registration we have no need to see your face when exercising so feel free to adjust the camera as necessary for privacy. Pictures are only taken to verify you have completed the exercise and will not be shared for any reason without your specific approval.

Who runs PlayFit?
PlayFit is not a commercial enterprise. It has been created as a service to help people get and stay in shape. The team that brings you PlayFit is lead by Liz who has a background in the field lasting over 10 years. She is joined by a number of others that contribute as needed from 3d modeling, AI development and fitness consultancy. We all have a passion for what we do and to do it well so hopefully you will enjoy PlayFit as well as being beneficial to your health.
What information do you store and is it safe?
We only ask you for the information we need to do our job ;-) You are free to use a made up name or nickname and we don’t need your address or phone number. The only information that can be traced to you, is your email. If this is a concern feel free to create a web-based email account just for this. Whilst we don’t store any information that can be easily traced to you, we still take the storage of your data seriously and take every precaution in keeping it safe.
Why do I need to have a web-cam? I don’t want anyone to see me exercising.
The web-cam is always optional and we will only capture images from it by asking you or during exercising (where you are free to cover the camera). However, we recommend that you do not cover your camera during exercising as we found that it gives you the accountability in completing exercises. Have you noticed the difference between attending an aerobics class at a sports center and doing a DVD at home? Knowing you are being watched by the others in the room stops you from taking a long “water break” just as your least favorite exercise comes on. That said all pictures are just stored under you account and are not shared with anyone else. We have software that can monitor the position of your arms and legs to automatically assess your activity and one of the team may occasionally check images to check the AI is functioning correctly.
Why do you not charge? Will this change?
The simple answer is that we hope this will help people that may not want to commit to a normal gym. Everyone in the team has other paid employment. So we don’t need to charge. At the moment we do not see this ever changing. However, depending on demand for advanced features like integration with Fitbit, Strava and specialist hardware we may add an additional premium membership to cover the additional expenses this will incur. What happens if I sign up and then don’t want to continue?
As we any fitness system or gym people can sign up in a rush on enthusiasm and then give up after a week or month. If you want to leave you can do at any time and have all your details and images permanently deleted, just ask to “delete my account” in settings. In addition if you don’t sign in for 3 months we will also delete your account.
